The Indian President on December 24 ,2014 has announced the Bharat Ratna award to Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya (posthumously) and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.The announcement comes on the eve of the 90th birthday of Vajpayee’s and on the 153rd birth anniversary of Pandit Malviya.
The 2013 Bharath award went to famous Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and Scientist C.N.R Rao. The former Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Morarji Desai, Lal Bahadur Shastri, along with first Governor General of free India C. Rajagopalachari, and former Deputy Prime Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel has been awarded Bharat Ratna before and Vajpayee becomes the seventh person in the same area to get the prestigious civilian award.
Vajpayee was born on December 25 1924 in Gwalior.Went to jail for short period for opposing British rule and joined RSS and he dropped of law school to become editor of RSS magazine.Vajpayee was a big fan of Shyama Prasad Mookerjee who was the founder of Bharthiya Jan Sangh who was the predecessor of present BJP.The former Prime Minister of India flirted with communism before joining fully with RSS.
Vajpayee won the first time to Parliament in 1957.He served the lower house for ten terms from 1957 till 2009.
Vajpayee headed the first BJP led NDA government and became the first non Congress Prime Minister to serve full five years.He shot to fame as external affairs minster under the Moraji Desai government as he delivered a excellent speech in Hindi in UN assembly in 1977.He is a bachelor and is famous for Lahore Bus travel,Nuclear blast and Kargil war.
Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, late freedom fighter-educationist & lawyer has been named for India’s highest civilian honour, Bharat Ratna. Born on December 25, 1861 ,he died a year before 1947 when India got independence.
- He was the one of the first leaders of the Hindu Mahasabha and he was also the president of Indian national Congress for two terms.He was the president in the year 1909 and 1918.
- Annie Besant, Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, Shyama Charan De has been inspired by Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya.
- The Banaras Hindu University was established in the year 1916 under the visionary of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya.
- The devangiri works was accepted in courts was due to the efforts of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya.
- Mahatma Gandhi ,the Father of nation considered Madan Mohan Malviya as an elder brother and alled him the ‘maker of modern India’.
- Jawaharlal Nehru has always considered Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya. As the main man in laying the foundation of Indian nationalism.
- Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya has given importance to spread of education and considered education as a cultural binding force.
